Cinematography comes from the Ancient Greek and means writing with motion.

A great Cinematographer will add depth, movement and visual force to the elements of each single frame.
A great example is the movie Road to Perdition by Sam Mendes where every scene is just like a painting due to the amazing work of Conrad L. Hall who won the Oscar for best cinematography.

Cinematography is a vital component of both your practical assignment and your film clip analysis. You must be able to identify cinematography elements within a film clip and be able to analyse it's use in relation to audience.
